Lake Champlain stretches 125 miles from tip to tip, and depending on how far you’re ranging, fuel planning matters. Marinas with fuel docks are spread out along both the New York and Vermont shores, but they’re not on every corner, and hours vary significantly by season. A little planning before you leave the dock goes a long way.
Below is a rundown of fuel docks on the New York side of the lake, organized from south to north. We recommend calling ahead to confirm hours and availability, especially outside of peak season (July-August), when some marinas reduce their hours considerably or close certain services entirely.
For the most current fuel prices across the lake, Waterway Guide’s Lake Champlain fuel price report is updated weekly and includes contact info for each facility.

Pro Tips for Fueling Up on Lake Champlain
Call ahead. Fuel dock hours on Lake Champlain can vary by day, weather, and time of year. A quick call before you head out saves you from arriving at a closed dock with a low tank.
Know your fuel type. Most marinas on Lake Champlain offer both gasoline and diesel. Some locations offer ethanol-free gas, which is preferred for many marine engines.
Use non-ethanol gas when available. Ethanol-blended fuel can absorb water more readily and degrade faster than ethanol-free marine gas, which can cause problems in boat engines over time, especially if your boat sits between uses. Ask the marina what’s available at the pump.
Watch your range on the open lake. Lake Champlain’s main lake sections can be long runs between fuel stops. Know your boat’s range at cruising speed before you commit to a long run, particularly heading south where fuel docks thin out below Port Henry.
Check current prices. Marine fuel prices fluctuate and vary by marina. Waterway Guide’s Lake Champlain fuel report is the most reliable resource for current prices before you go.
Need a Boat That Goes the Distance?
If you’re spending serious time on Lake Champlain, fuel efficiency matters. Modern outboard and sterndrive engines have come a long way in fuel economy compared to older inboards, and the right hull design can make a real difference in how far you get on a tank.
