January 22, 2025 — Boats by George is proud to announce its contribution toward the reconstruction of the iconic gazebo at the Schumann Preserve at Pilot Knob. This treasured structure, a symbol of community and natural beauty, will soon be revitalized to continue serving as a cherished destination for hikers and Lake George enthusiasts.
The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) acquired the Schumann Preserve in 2000, with the gazebo becoming a centerpiece of the property. Over the years, it has provided a place of rest and breathtaking views for tens of thousands of visitors. Due to significant wear and tear, the gazebo is now beyond safe repair, and plans for a new structure to be built on its original footprint are set to begin in the spring of 2025.
Mike Horn, Executive Director of LGLC, expressed his gratitude for Boats by George’s support, stating, “We are incredibly grateful to Boats by George for this generous gift toward the gazebo reconstruction project at the Schumann Preserve. The new gazebo will be rededicated as the Teresa M. and George E. Lawrence Memorial Gazebo in honor of George E. Lawrence’s lifelong love of Lake George and the ongoing generosity of the Lawrence family. Alongside the reconstruction, additional trail improvements leading to the gazebo will enhance the visitor experience, further solidifying the preserve’s role as a community gem.
